MY BRAVE LOOKS LIKE

I recognize the courage and bravery it takes to “show up and do the work” to become your authentic self.

Why? Because my own journey has demanded it. For many years, I lived outside my story and allowed friends, family, colleagues, society, and religion to tell me if I was worthy enough. I thought I was good at the hustle. 

It worked for a while. Until the day I came face-to-face with the truth… my story, my life, was not my own. It was a great collection of short stories written by others' thoughts, opinions, and beliefs about how I should live to gain my value. 

 
 

I was angry, sad, unhappy and determined. Determined to take over being both the narrator and the hero of my story. This was the beginning of hard and emotional work. At times, I did not feel brave to hold my space for authenticity and at times I have felt my bravery guide me to great joy. 

It has been a long and ongoing process but my truth is this… I am inside my story as the author and it is my own.

About Shawn

I am a native to the Middle TN area. I live in East Nashville with my dog, Oliver. One of my favorite things is having popcorn and a coke at the movies. I attempt to create the perfect playlist for any occasion. During the pandemic, I learned there is a definite limit to binge watching the Netflix universe. I enjoy yoga, meditation, going to the theater and the ballet. I got into water aerobics this summer. I enjoy listening to podcasts and reading books… (well…listening to books on Audible). I love to laugh and enjoy a good Instagram. I drink coffee all day and yes the baristas at Starbucks know me by name. I have a weakness for Peanut M&Ms.
